A POEM FOR PRESIDENT BUHARI

After all the years in political battle,
Finally, you had succor to the enemies rattle,
A proof that your time had arrived,
To a nation whose destiny for long’s being deprived,
We waited so long for that glorious change,
Praying that God’s hands came around our nation’s range,
And it came in your perseverance,
Your determination, courage and strong stance.
We were disenchanted with our failures,
yet enchanted with foreign lures,
and those who could, found their way out
leaving those who can’t with our poverty clout
in spite of the plenty that surrounded us,
and the wealth which would have created our allure,
but our determination never failed
and it has come to pay for our bail.
Nigerians accepted your change,
your pledge to take us to the global stage,
to rekindle the pride that’s Nigerian,
and to have return our sons who have being alien.
We sang in the streets and danced the samba,
skelewu and shoki rep’d the streets without damper,
because we believed in your believe,
that in you, Nigerians would find relief.
Now is the time to heal our lands,
To remove the walls of partitions that align our sands,
To break through for us and make us better
To improve our lot and make us goal-getters.
Its now in your hands our dear baba,
To change as you promised, our national matter,
To drive the wheels of change towards a greater tomorrow
And to build for us a land without sorrow.
You knocked out the incumbent fiercely
And forced him to have his cap off his head firmly,
and though he cringed with the pains of losing,
he accepted that fate was to you calling.
Now you have what you wanted,
The power for which those many years you hunted,
To raise this nation as you promised
A target path you must not miss.
Our land needs healing,
And you’ve decided to be the doctor,
The one Nigerians will be reeling,
For a jug of ample succor.
We believe with you,
And pray you won’t fail us too,
So that together Nigeria will be greater,
And have the best of the world rate her.
As you step into power,
We pray that you take cover,
Under the mighty hands of grace,
That is necessary for you to make this race.
So that at the end all will say,
That you brought a better day,
And that all is ending well
Because it was meant to end well.
